Theatre for Communities
In addition to our regular season's productions, Rabbit Hole Ensemble also presents a community project each year, in which one of the current season’s new works is brought to underserved audiences in Brooklyn for free performances. The company was searching for an opportunity to share its work with new audiences who do not have the opportunity to see professional theatre in their own neighborhoods, and in the fall of 2007, reached out to a number of community organizations in Brooklyn. The Theatre for Communities project was launched in March of 2008, through partnerships with Amber Court Assisted Living Facility, Brooklyn Community Housing and Services,
["We've always wanted to take the work we do to communities that don't have the opportunity or the means to go to the theater," said Elefterion]
As quoted in the NY Daily News
The North East Brooklyn Housing and Development Corporation, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, and Brooklyn Brewery. The inaugural production was Edward Elefterion’s A Rope in the Abyssa tapestry of stories about patients and families whose lives are irrevocably changed by brain injury. We found that audiences responded very strongly to the company’s simple, direct style, and that the project as a whole has great potential for adding to a sense of community in isolated populations. We are proud and excited to continue the Theatre for Communities project in 2009 with Candide Americana, and to partner with Amber Court Assisted Living Facility, Brooklyn Community Housing and Services, and North Brooklyn Development Corporation.
