Rabbit Hole Ensemble is proud to present BIG THICK ROD as part of the 12th annual New York International Fringe Festival – FringeNYC.  Playwright Stanton Wood and director Edward Elefterion (The Night of Nosferatu) continue their long collaborative partnership on this new dark comedy.

Big Thick Rod is a neo-realist fairy tale that follows a wood nymph named Cricket who leaves the forest to marry a lawyer, only to discover that he never wants to have sex.  Since sex is an essential part of her magical nature, she hires a simple handyman named Rod to ‘make up the difference”, and a power struggle begins.  This sharp new comedy uses the mythology of sexual identity to explore the dynamics of power and exploitation.  Negotiating a world of eunuchs, male prostitutes, three-armed gardeners, repressed lawyers, and blow-up dolls, Cricket becomes more and more adept at using the tools of city capitalism to service her own needs.  

Rabbit Hole Ensemble is a Brooklyn-based theatre company that engages the imagination of audiences by using the power of the performer to create atmosphere and story.  Performers use their bodies and voices to create environments and sound design.  Their distinctly minimalist aesthetic emphasizes the communal nature of theatre to produce a uniquely direct and candid experience.   Their most recent productions include A Rope in the Abyss, about brain injury, and the critically acclaimed production of Wood’s version of the Dracula myth, The Night of Nosferatu.

This show features Rabbit Hole Ensemble resident artists Arthur Aulisi*, Tatiana Gomberg*, Dan Ajl Kitrosser, Matt W.
